The Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies at the University of Warsaw is one of the leading centres of geographical research in Central and Eastern Europe. It offers degree programmes in geography, spatial management, and urban studies, combining a long academic tradition with contemporary research methods. The Faculty is composed of seven departments, a library, and the Mazovian Geographical Centre in Murzynowo near Płock.

The Faculty is currently headed by Prof. Maciej Jędrusik.

Nearly 150 people are employed at the Faculty, including over 100 researchers and academic teachers. Approximately 700 students study here, gaining knowledge and skills through numerous field courses and project-based classes that form an important part of the curriculum.

The Faculty’s main headquarters are located in a historic building at 30 Krakowskie Przedmieście Street, on the main campus of the University.

Research conducted at the Faculty covers physical, socio-economic, and regional geography, as well as cartography, remote sensing, geoinformatics, spatial management, urban planning, and urban studies at various spatial scales. The Faculty carries out numerous projects financed by the National Science Centre, the National Centre for Research and Development, ministerial programmes, EU framework programmes, and other international funds.

The Faculty also collaborates with public institutions, local authorities, and private-sector partners, conducting research and expert analyses on their behalf. Our staff and doctoral students collaborate with leading research centres around the world, as well as with partners from the social and economic sectors.
